THE BRICKMAKER

This was my final project at City of Glasgow College and my Graded Unit project. For this project, we were given 6 briefs to choose from, my choice was "A Life's Work".

I had to create a publication that celebrated the life and work of Adrian Frutiger, one of the most influential Typographers to ever live. I didn't want to create a publication that said "Adrian Frutiger created this typeface in this year, etc.", I wanted this publication to have it's own purpose outside of the brief's requirements.
The outcome was "THE BRICKMAKER", a publication that looked at the finer, intricate details of Frutiger's typefaces; Univers, Frutiger and Avenir. I wanted to give the reader the time and ability to be able to sit down and understand and appreciate these details, without saying "look at this letter" or, "look at the angle of the
italicised weight" the whole point was to let the reader discover these intricacies for themselves.

This whole concept was inspired by a quote from Adrian Frutiger himself;
"I am the brickmaker, not the architect, I just make good bricks for graphic designers to build with."
